I had that happen to me before. If you've used high heat and boiled off too much water too often, the pyrex will develop stress fractures and eventually you'll go to boil something again and it will shatter. Never use pyrex or glass pots of any kind to boil a lot of water with high heat. A cheap metal stock pot will serve you much better and longer.
Glassware is a perfectly good cooking material (had my set for over 14 years, like new except for the ones I let my mother touch :P). Just remember to heat slowly; on medium heat is best (maybe using room temp water instead of cold). Don't crank it all the way up because you're impatient or hungry now.
